"I've tried searching for a Spiderman costume but the only results I get are the cheesy looking ones!" |
| |
| This is how I felt when I first looked into buying my own 'realistic' Spiderman costume. The pyjama versions seems to be everywhere. |

Not what I had in mind... |
|
..This is more like it. But how can I get one? |

Dear Spidey Fans,
This fan-made site will show...
"How ANYONE Can Make A Great Spiderman Costume, Simply and Easily..." My quest to make my own costume began when I finally managed to track down a site that sells costumes
similar to the movies. However, I encountered a new setback. It was...
"I've tried searching for a Spiderman movie costume but why are they are so expensive!"
After my research, I realized
that there's actually quite a lot involved in making a Spiderman suit. It can become a bit daunting for a newbie.
You can find yourself talking about urethane webbing, face shell, foam latex muscle suit and jockstraps! These are actual components of a suit. But none of them are essential. You can still make your own movie style Spiderman outfit without them.
"The aim is to show you STEP-BY-STEP, in the simplest way possible, how YOU can make your own movie version Spiderman costume yourself and curve ball those high prices..."
- Making it yourself will save you hundreds of dollars than if you were to buy it somewhere else.
- Lots of ordinary people have already created their own suits.
- You don't need to a degree in costume design to do this.
- What you will need is time, ie researching best services and the print process can take weeks. If you're looking for an instant Spidey suit for a party in 2 weeks, this isn't the site for you.
- Peter Parker makes his own suits and that's
the way it should be.
- Putting together your suit and wearing it for the first time is a great feeling.
|
| |
At first making your own suit can be confusing and complicated but if you follow my steps, it will make it easy,
Here, I will outline what STEPS, you need to make in the simplest way possible, how YOU can do exactly the same yourself ... |
| |
- Obtain the Spiderman costume pattern.
Buy and download instantly a pattern I modified myself (See below).
- Transfer the pattern file on to a CD.
- Find a dye sublimation company peferably in your area and ask them to print the pattern onto 4 way white lycra fabric. This fabric will mould to your body when you put it on. Forget muscle suits by buffing up at the gym. The print process can take a few weeks.
- Getting your right size is important even though you've got some leeway as the material can stretch. When you find a dye sublimation company, ask them if their dye process shrinks the original image size. If it does then you'll need to ask them adjust the image size to compensate the shrinkage. The pattern can be easily resized using software like Photoshop in the image settings. Don't worry if you don't have that kind of software. The dye company should, so communicate any adjustments to them.
- Once printed, cut out the printed
pieces.
- Take it to your local seamstress who can get your costume sewn. Tell them to use Zig Zag stitch for best results. The pattern is
laid out in a way that any seamstress can assemble with little to no trouble. If you know how to sew then you can save money by doing it
yourself.
- Add two zippers running from each armpit down and over the belt in the back.
- Sew or glue kung-fu or aqua shoes into the
feet.
- Lenses and eye frames are an essential component and the easiest option is to buy
them and glue on. Further information on obtaining a pair will be supplied upon purchase.
Extra Tip: Optional but recommended.
In order to avoid the embarrasment of male camel toe, get yourself an abdo guard.
You will noticed that some step has options. Some research on your part is required to find the best price, especially for services as it varies
between companies.
Dye sublimation for example costs on average $200 - $350
USD.
This is an area where you can save
money by printing it yourself instead of buying a print
elsewhere for double the cost of your own print.
When finished, you will have a costume that looks
similar to the movie costume.
The costume is great for personal use or even income opportunities such as kids parties or other entertainment purposes.
Good Luck!

3-D Webs and Spider was created by myself using Photoshop & Illustrator. |
|
High quality brick pattern and muscle shading. |
|
| |
My Spiderman pattern will print off a one piece suit. It's on a PDF format and has printed 3-D webbing (not raised), spiders, and
muscle shading on the pattern.
So this means:
- You don't need to worry about latex accessories and its high costs.
- There's no glue breaking down and wearing off.
- Printed web is more flexible, and easier to clean and maintain.
- Costume pattern is print ready to fit a person between
5'8" to 6'2", slim to medium build. Refer to step 4 when printing.
I created the 3-D spiders and webbing as vector graphics using Adobe Illustrator's 3-D effects.
Here's some technical info about vector graphics:
"As vector graphics is independent of display/output resolution, it can be scaled or rotated flexibly. It will always display/print at the highest resolution of the output device used."
Basically, you will get a better print quality with vectors.
